Grußwort Internationale Mathematik Olympiade

Vom 10. bis zum 22. Juli 2009 findet in Bremen die 50. Internationale Mathematik Olympiade statt. Ich freue mich, die talentiertesten Nachwuchsmathematikerinnen und -mathematiker aus der ganzen Welt hier in Deutschland begrüßen zu können. Wettbewerbe wie die Internationale Mathematik Olympiade zeigen: Wir nehmen Talente ernst, geben ihnen eine Chance, sich zu entfalten und erfolgreich zu entwickeln.

Wer an einem Wettbewerb wie diesem teilnimmt, ist nicht nur fasziniert und begeistert von der Mathematik, er möchte sich auch mit anderen messen. Es wird eine sehr ereignisreiche Zeit werden mit mathematischen Höchstleistungen, Austausch und Begegnungen und hoffentlich auch eine Zeit für neue Freundschaften. Unsere Gäste aus anderen Ländern haben gleichzeitig die Chance, Deutschland ein wenig kennen zu lernen. Seien Sie herzlich willkommen!

In diesem Jahr findet die Internationalen Mathematik Olympiade zum fünfzigsten Mal statt. Menschen, die an der Geschichte dieses wichtigen Wettbewerbs mitgeschrieben haben, werden das Jubiläum gemeinsam mit uns begehen. Ich erhoffe mir daher, dass dieses Jubiläum die Möglichkeit zum Dialog gibt und davon Impulse ausgehen für die Zukunft und kommende Mathematiker-Generationen.

Ich danke den vielen ehrenamtlichen Helferinnen und Helfern, die die Olympiade maßgeblich unterstützen und damit möglich machen. Ihnen sowie allen jungen Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmern wünsche ich eine gute Zeit in Deutschland und viel Erfolg.


Message of Greeting International Mathematical Olympiad

The 50th International Mathematical Olympiad will take place in Bremen from 10 to 22 July 2009. It is a pleasure for me to welcome the most talented young mathematicians from all over the world here in Germany. Competitions like the International Mathematical Olympiad show that we are serious about promoting talent and giving young people an opportunity to develop successfully.

Young people who take part in a contest like this are not only fascinated by mathematics but also want to compare and compete with others. It will be an exciting time marked by mathematical excellence, exchanges and encounters, and hopefully also a time for forging new friendships. Our guests from abroad may also find an opportunity to get to know this country. Welcome all to Germany!

This is the 50th International Mathematical Olympiad. People who have been involved in the history of this important competition will join us in celebrating its 50th anniversary. I hope that this anniversary will offer an opportunity for dialogue and provide major stimuli for the future and for coming generations of mathematicians.

I would like to thank the many volunteers, whose assistance and support is essential for the Olympiad. I wish all volunteer supporters and the young contestants a good time in Germany and a successful competition.
